Jon has served as publisher for Rust in several markets in Tennessee and Missouri, as well as a political correspondent and columnist in Washington, D.C. Along with his role as co-president, he is publisher of the group's flagship Southeast Missourian newspaper. He is a former vice-chair of the Associated Press board of directors and a past chair of the Local Media Association. A Morehead Scholar at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where he was managing editor of the Daily Tar Heel, he is an honors graduate of Harvard Business School, where he was president of the Leadership and Ethics Forum. His local involvement is extensive, including currently serving as chairman of the Downtown Cape Girardeau Community Improvement District, vice-chair of the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce and vice-chair of the Cape Girardeau County Industrial Development Authority. Rust has worked with different companies in California, New York, Boston and Russia. He and his wife Dr. Victoria Rust, a native of Minsk, Belarus, have three daughters.
