The Monett Times and Cassville Democrat are the gold standard of excellence for small-town journalism in the state of Missouri. The Missouri Press Association named the Democrat the Gold Cup weekly, and the Times earned the General Excellence award from the Missouri Press Association.
Published since the late 1800s, The Times and Democrat have been part of the fabric of Barry and Lawrence County, Mo., communities for more than a century. We love telling people’s stories, serving as government watchdogs, and celebrating the successes of our community and the people who live here.
The Times and Democrat are family-owned newspapers. We have high values and standards, and offer a positive work environment. We believe that great things are possible through teamwork, and that the success of one team member is everyone’s success. Being a small newspaper company, we see each team member as an equal partner in making our products the best they can be. We also publish the highly-popular Connection Magazine, which features lifestyles pieces from around southwest Missouri.
Located in southwest Missouri, our area is home to beautiful Table Rock Lake and the Mark Twain National Forest. The natural beauty is a draw to people who choose to live here, but it’s the friendly faces of neighbors that keep people around.
Despite it’s small population, our community is home to many industries. Jack Henry and Associates, EFCO Corporation and others are headquartered in Monett, as are several factories. Our low cost of living and low tax rate draws businesses and individuals to locate here.
Our communities offer great school districts and parks systems. We are also home to Roaring River State Park, which features some of the best trout fishing anywhere in the nation. There is plenty to do in Barry and Lawrence counties, but we are a short drive from weekend getaway destinations, including Branson, Kansas City, Springfield, and Eureka Springs, Ark.
There are also several universities within a short drive, including the University of Arkansas (Fayetteville), Missouri State University (Springfield), Missouri Southern State University (Joplin), and Drury University (Springfield).
